“ Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

“ Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

忠心耿耿以衛聖宅兮。一腔熱血。為主而任勞任怨兮。身成眾矢之的。

時有如望之徒晉謁曰：『吾儕及法利塞人恆齋、爾徒獨不齋何也？』耶穌對曰：『新壻之友、方伴新壻、詎能哀泣？他日新壻被刼而去、斯彼齋戒時矣。

爾祈禱時、亦勿效虛偽之徒；蓋若輩喜立於堂中街頭、而作祈禱、故令人見。吾實語爾、彼已獲其報矣。

曩者彼有患。吾心為惻惻。衣麻且齋戒。求主脫其厄。所求出至誠。對主披心腹。

故爾於施濟時毋效虛偽者在堂中或市上、鳴角以求榮於人者之所為也。吾實語爾。彼已獲其報矣。

如望之弟子及法利塞人恆守齋、或來問耶穌曰：『如望弟子及法利塞人之徒、恆守齋、而汝徒獨不守齋何也？』

遂守寡至今、年已八十有四歲矣；平生不離聖殿、朝暮嚴齋祈禱。

受撻也、監禁也、遘亂也、操作也、守夜也、齋戒也、

齋久雙膝軟。肌膚不復實。

備嘗艱辛、終夜不寐、載飢載渴、時復齋戒、忍苦耐勞、寒而無衣。

並於各會選立長老、守齋祈禱、以信者託付於主。

方其禮主齋戒之際、聖神謂之曰：『為我甄別巴拿巴及掃羅、以赴我所命之任務。』乃復齋戒祈禱、為之行覆手禮、遣之使去。

如經雙方同意、為專務祈禱、暫時分居、則亦無妨。惟事後仍宜同居、恐因節制過度、反授沙殫以邪誘之機耳。
