For what credit is there if you sin and are punished, and you endure it? But when you do what is good and suffer, if you endure it, this brings favor with God.For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in His steps.He did not commit sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth;when He was reviled, He did not revile in return; when He was suffering, He did not threaten but entrusted Himself to the One who judges justly.

While He was reclining at the table in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came as guests to eat with Jesus and His disciples.When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples,“ Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

“ Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of people, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

There was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say,‘ Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”

If he pays no attention to them, tell the church. But if he doesn’t pay attention even to the church, let him be like an unbeliever and a tax collector to you.

“ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even raise his eyes to heaven but kept striking his chest and saying,‘ God, turn Your wrath from me— a sinner!’

All the tax collectors and sinners were approaching to listen to Him.

All who saw it began to complain,“ He’s gone to lodge with a sinful man!”

“ Which of the two did his father’s will?”“ The first,” they said. Jesus said to them,“ I assure you: Tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you!For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him, but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.
