But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

惟我語汝、敵爾者愛之、詛爾者祝之、憾爾者善視之、陷害窘逐爾者、為之祈禱、

惟我語爾、敵爾者愛之、詛爾者祝之、憾爾者善待之、毀謗爾、窘逐爾者、為之祈禱、

惟吾語爾、愛爾仇讐、為辱爾者禱、

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

But here is what I tell you. Love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you.

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

but I say unto you, Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you,

But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,

Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them.

Instead,“ If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.”Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.

“ But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you.Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.

Jesus said,“ Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.

If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink.You will heap burning coals of shame on their heads, and the Lord will reward you.

He fell to his knees, shouting,“ Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.“ Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.

We work wearily with our own hands to earn our living. We bless those who curse us. We are patient with those who abuse us.We appeal gently when evil things are said about us. Yet we are treated like the world’s garbage, like everybody’s trash— right up to the present moment.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proudor rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!

“ If you come upon your enemy’s ox or donkey that has strayed away, take it back to its owner.If you see that the donkey of someone who hates you has collapsed under its load, do not walk by. Instead, stop and help.

“ Of course not!” Elisha replied.“ Do we kill prisoners of war? Give them food and drink and send them home again to their master.”

Yet when they were ill, I grieved for them. I denied myself by fasting for them, but my prayers returned unanswered.I was sad, as though they were my friends or family, as if I were grieving for my own mother.

if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause,

But a prophet of the Lord named Oded was there in Samaria when the army of Israel returned home. He went out to meet them and said,“ The Lord, the God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah and let you defeat them. But you have gone too far, killing them without mercy, and all heaven is disturbed.And now you are planning to make slaves of these people from Judah and Jerusalem. What about your own sins against the Lord your God?Listen to me and return these prisoners you have taken, for they are your own relatives. Watch out, because now the Lord’s fierce anger has been turned against you!”Then some of the leaders of Israel— Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berekiah son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai— agreed with this and confronted the men returning from battle.“ You must not bring the prisoners here!” they declared.“ We cannot afford to add to our sins and guilt. Our guilt is already great, and the Lord’s fierce anger is already turned against Israel.”So the warriors released the prisoners and handed over the plunder in the sight of the leaders and all the people.Then the four men just mentioned by name came forward and distributed clothes from the plunder to the prisoners who were naked. They provided clothing and sandals to wear, gave them enough food and drink, and dressed their wounds with olive oil. They put those who were weak on donkeys and took all the prisoners back to their own people in Jericho, the city of palms. Then they returned to Samaria.
