But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.

Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

Say not thou, I will recompense evil;[ but] wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

For what glory[ is it], if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer[ for it], ye take it patiently, this[ is] acceptable with God.For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed[ himself] to him that judgeth righteously:

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I[ am] the LORD.

Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

He giveth[ his] cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but[ rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance[ is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather[ suffer yourselves to] be defrauded?

I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not[ smite] him the second time.And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD’S anointed, and be guiltless?David said furthermore,[ As] the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.

Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and[ some] bade[ me] kill thee: but[ mine eye] spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he[ is] the LORD’S anointed.Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that[ there is] neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.

They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

Ye have condemned[ and] killed the just;[ and] he doth not resist you.

That this shall be no grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood causeless, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thine handmaid.And David said to Abigail, Blessed[ be] the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me:And blessed[ be] thy advice, and blessed[ be] thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to[ shed] blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand.For in very deed,[ as] the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.

Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
