But I tell you, don’t take an oath at all: either by heaven, because it is God’s throne;

惟我語爾、概勿誓、勿指天、以天乃上帝座也、

惟我語汝、概勿誓、勿指天而誓、天乃上帝座也、

惟我告爾、概勿誓、勿指天而誓、因天乃天主之寶座也、

第吾語爾、毋發誓；毋指天而誓、此天主之寶座也；

But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne;

But here is what I tell you. Do not make any promises like that at all. Do not make them in the name of heaven. That is God’s throne.

But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,

But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say,‘ By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne.

Now above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. Your“ yes” must be“ yes,” and your“ no” must be“ no,” so that you won’t fall under judgment.

This is what the Lord says: Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What house could you possibly build for Me? And what place could be My home?

“ If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to keep it, because He will require it of you, and it will be counted against you as sin.But if you refrain from making a vow, it will not be counted against you as sin.Be careful to do whatever comes from your lips, because you have freely vowed what you promised to the Lord your God.

“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever takes an oath by the sanctuary, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gold of the sanctuary is bound by his oath.’Blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the sanctuary that sanctified the gold?Also,‘ Whoever takes an oath by the altar, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gift that is on it is bound by his oath.’Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?Therefore, the one who takes an oath by the altar takes an oath by it and by everything on it.The one who takes an oath by the sanctuary takes an oath by it and by Him who dwells in it.And the one who takes an oath by heaven takes an oath by God’s throne and by Him who sits on it.

For the High and Exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy says this:“ I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the oppressed.

Everything is the same for everyone: there is one fate for the righteous and the wicked, for the good and the bad, for the clean and the unclean, for the one who sacrifices and the one who does not sacrifice. As it is for the good, so it is for the sinner; as for the one who takes an oath, so for the one who fears an oath.
