If someone says,“ I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.

If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead.Anyone who hates another brother or sister is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don’t have eternal life within them.

And“ don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry,for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

“ Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Very early in the morning the leading priests, the elders, and the teachers of religious law— the entire high council— met to discuss their next step. They bound Jesus, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor.

Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find evidence against Jesus, so they could put him to death. But they couldn’t find any.

Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.

“ That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”

Then the leading priests and Pharisees called the high council together.“ What are we going to do?” they asked each other.“ This man certainly performs many miraculous signs.

But beware! For you will be handed over to the courts and will be flogged with whips in the synagogues.

They surround me with hateful words and fight against me for no reason.

But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say,‘ By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne.

The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence.

if I have betrayed a friend or plundered my enemy without cause,

“ Then the King will turn to those on the left and say,‘ Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons.

Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before.

Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find witnesses who would lie about Jesus, so they could put him to death.

So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet.And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

“ Because of the violence you did to your close relatives in Israel, you will be filled with shame and destroyed forever.

“ So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you,leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.

In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.

“ Moses himself told the people of Israel,‘ God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people.’

The crowd replied,“ You’re demon possessed! Who’s trying to kill you?”

or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people— none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.

But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear.

Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death.

He also had a debate with some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. When he told them about Jesus and his resurrection, they said,“ What’s this babbler trying to say with these strange ideas he’s picked up?” Others said,“ He seems to be preaching about some foreign gods.”

But instead, one believer sues another— right in front of unbelievers!

Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!

“ You should not have gloated when they exiled your relatives to distant lands. You should not have rejoiced when the people of Judah suffered such misfortune. You should not have spoken arrogantly in that terrible time of trouble.

But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said,“ The Lord rebuke you!”( This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses’ body.)

“ Get out of here, you murderer, you scoundrel!” he shouted at David.

Then they brought the apostles before the high council, where the high priest confronted them.

No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.

And these men gave David the same reply. They said,“ Yes, that is the reward for killing him.”But when David’s oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry.“ What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded.“ What about those few sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!”

At the meeting I said to them,“ We are doing all we can to redeem our Jewish relatives who have had to sell themselves to pagan foreigners, but you are selling them back into slavery again. How often must we redeem them?” And they had nothing to say in their defense.

This fulfills what is written in their Scriptures:‘ They hated me without cause.’

Asa became so angry with Hanani for saying this that he threw him into prison and put him in stocks. At that time Asa also began to oppress some of his people.

“ What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn that person into twice the child of hell you yourselves are!

Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?

Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm.

Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets.Moses said,‘ The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people. Listen carefully to everything he tells you.’Then Moses said,‘ Anyone who will not listen to that Prophet will be completely cut off from God’s people.’

but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.“ Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain.“ Why do you look so dejected?

Only fools say in their hearts,“ There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands.

Don’t let my treacherous enemies rejoice over my defeat. Don’t let those who hate me without cause gloat over my sorrow.

My enemies, whom I have never harmed, hunted me down like a bird.

Those who hate me without cause outnumber the hairs on my head. Many enemies try to destroy me with lies, demanding that I give back what I didn’t steal.

Only a simpleton would not know, and only a fool would not understand this:

Like a partridge that hatches eggs she has not laid, so are those who get their wealth by unjust means. At midlife they will lose their riches; in the end, they will become poor old fools.

When David returned home to bless his own family, Michal, the daughter of Saul, came out to meet him. She said in disgust,“ How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!”

And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.So if your eye— even your good eye— causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.And if your hand— even your stronger hand— causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

But when the Pharisees heard about the miracle, they said,“ No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan, the prince of demons.”

Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual.

How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?

The people retorted,“ You Samaritan devil! Didn’t we say all along that you were possessed by a demon?”

His brothers responded,“ So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them.

Fools’ words get them into constant quarrels; they are asking for a beating.

The king was furious when he heard this, and he ordered that all the wise men of Babylon be executed.And because of the king’s decree, men were sent to find and kill Daniel and his friends.

So Ahab went home angry and sullen because of Naboth’s answer. The king went to bed with his face to the wall and refused to eat!

But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.”

When they arrived, Saul shouted at him,“ Listen to me, you son of Ahitub!”“ What is it, my king?” Ahimelech asked.“ Why have you and the son of Jesse conspired against me?” Saul demanded.“ Why did you give him food and a sword? Why have you consulted God for him? Why have you encouraged him to kill me, as he is trying to do this very day?”“ But sir,” Ahimelech replied,“ is anyone among all your servants as faithful as David, your son in law? Why, he is the captain of your bodyguard and a highly honored member of your household!This was certainly not the first time I had consulted God for him! May the king not accuse me and my family in this matter, for I knew nothing at all of any plot against you.”“ You will surely die, Ahimelech, along with your entire family!” the king shouted.And he ordered his bodyguards,“ Kill these priests of the Lord, for they are allies and conspirators with David! They knew he was running away from me, but they didn’t tell me!” But Saul’s men refused to kill the Lord’s priests.Then the king said to Doeg,“ You do it.” So Doeg the Edomite turned on them and killed them that day, eighty five priests in all, still wearing their priestly garments.Then he went to Nob, the town of the priests, and killed the priests’ families— men and women, children and babies— and all the cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats.Only Abiathar, one of the sons of Ahimelech, escaped and fled to David.When he told David that Saul had killed the priests of the Lord,David exclaimed,“ I knew it! When I saw Doeg the Edomite there that day, I knew he was sure to tell Saul. Now I have caused the death of all your father’s family.Stay here with me, and don’t be afraid. I will protect you with my own life, for the same person wants to kill us both.”

Those who are wise must finally die, just like the foolish and senseless, leaving all their wealth behind.

But his brothers hated Joseph because their father loved him more than the rest of them. They couldn’t say a kind word to him.

But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

For John didn’t spend his time eating and drinking, and you say,‘ He’s possessed by a demon.’The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say,‘ He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.”

This made Saul very angry.“ What’s this?” he said.“ They credit David with ten thousands and me with only thousands. Next they’ll be making him their king!”So from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David.

Saul boiled with rage at Jonathan.“ You stupid son of a whore!” he swore at him.“ Do you think I don’t know that you want him to be king in your place, shaming yourself and your mother?As long as that son of Jesse is alive, you’ll never be king. Now go and get him so I can kill him!”“ But why should he be put to death?” Jonathan asked his father.“ What has he done?”Then Saul hurled his spear at Jonathan, intending to kill him. So at last Jonathan realized that his father was really determined to kill David.

I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell the people everything I command him.I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on my behalf.
