so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish though you live in a crooked and perverse society, in which you shine as lights in the world

for you were at one time darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light–for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth–trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.For the things they do in secret are shameful even to mention.But all things being exposed by the light are made evident.For everything made evident is light, and for this reason it says:“ Awake, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!”

Then Jesus spoke out again,“ I am the light of the world. The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

For you all are sons of the light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of the darkness.

But the path of the righteous is like the bright morning light, growing brighter and brighter until full day.

While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become sons of light.” When Jesus had said these things, he went away and hid himself from them.

and if you are convinced that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,an educator of the senseless, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the essential features of knowledge and of the truth–

Do not become partners with those who do not believe, for what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship does light have with darkness?

He was a lamp that was burning and shining, and you wanted to rejoice greatly for a short time in his light.

The wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.The angel who spoke to me had a golden measuring rod with which to measure the city and its foundation stones and wall.Now the city is laid out as a square, its length and width the same. He measured the city with the measuring rod at fourteen hundred miles( its length and width and height are equal).He also measured its wall, one hundred forty- four cubits according to human measurement, which is also the angel’s.The city’s wall is made of jasper and the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.The foundations of the city’s wall are decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation is jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.And the twelve gates are twelve pearls– each one of the gates is made from just one pearl! The main street of the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.Now I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God– the All- Powerful– and the Lamb are its temple.The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp is the Lamb.The nations will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their grandeur into it.Its gates will never be closed during the day( and there will be no night there).They will bring the grandeur and the wealth of the nations into it,but nothing ritually unclean will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or practices falsehood, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Then they said,“ Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens so that we may make a name for ourselves. Otherwise we will be scattered across the face of the entire earth.”But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the people had started building.And the LORD said,“ If as one people all sharing a common language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be beyond them.Come, let’s go down and confuse their language so they won’t be able to understand each other.”So the LORD scattered them from there across the face of the entire earth, and they stopped building the city.
