你們的話要時常帶着溫雅的情調，像用鹽調和而有味道，使你們曉得怎樣回答各人。

『鹽是好的；但假使連鹽也失了味，要用甚麼來調味呢？或在田地裏，或在糞堆裏，都不合用了；只好丟在外面。有耳可聽的、應當聽。』

因為各人都必須被火所醃。鹽是好的；但鹽若成了不鹹的，要用甚麼來調味呢？應當有鹽在你們中間；應當彼此和睦。』

因為人既儘一次蒙了光照，又嘗過屬天之白白的恩，而有分於聖靈，嘗過上帝之話語多麼美好，又嘗過來世之能力，若背離了正道，要叫他們再復新而悔改、是不可能的，因為他們已在自己身上把上帝的兒子重釘十字架，使他公然被羞辱了。

凡你獻為素祭的供物都要用鹽調和；在你的素祭上、你的上帝立約之鹽、是不可讓它缺少的；你一切的供物、都要配着鹽而獻上。

倘若他們既因認識我們的主、救主耶穌基督、而逃脫了世俗的染污，又在其中被纏住被制勝着，那麼他們末後的景況就比先前的更壞了。他們認識了正義之路以後，若從所傳授給他們的聖誡上退轉下去，那倒不如沒有認識過好啊。
