每一個人必被火當鹽來醃。（有些抄本在此有“各祭物必用鹽來醃”一句；也有些抄本只有附註的一句，而沒有正文的一句）鹽是好的，但如果失了味，可以用甚麼使它再鹹呢？你們自己裡面應當有鹽，彼此和睦。”

因為那些曾經蒙了光照，嘗過屬天的恩賜的滋味，與聖靈有分，並且嘗過神美善的道和來世的權能的人，如果偏離了正道，就不可能再使他們重新悔改了。因為他們親自把神的兒子再釘在十字架上，公然羞辱他。

你獻作素祭的一切供物，都要用鹽調和；在你的素祭上，不可缺少你神立約的鹽；你的一切供物，都要用鹽調和獻上。

如果他們因為認識我們的主、救主耶穌基督，可以脫離世上的污穢，後來又在其中被纏住、受制伏，他們末了的景況，就比先前的更不好了。既然認識了義路，竟又背棄傳給他們的聖誡命，對他們來說，倒不如不認識好得多了。
