Jesus answered,“ It is written:‘ Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

But Jesus told him,“ No! The Scriptures say,‘ People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written,‘ He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”Jesus then said to them,“ Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”They said to him,“ Sir, give us this bread always.”Jesus said to them,“ I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe.All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said,“ I am the bread that came down from heaven.”They said,“ Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say,‘ I have come down from heaven’?”Jesus answered them,“ Do not grumble among yourselves.No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.It is written in the Prophets,‘ And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me—not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.I am the bread of life.Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying,“ How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”So Jesus said to them,“ Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me.This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”Jesus said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another,“ What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them,“ It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.

The people of Israel ate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land. They ate the manna till they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

And Jesus answered him,“ It is written,“‘ You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’”

And Moses said,“ When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him— what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the Lord.”

Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip,“ Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.Philip answered him,“ Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.”One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,“ There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?”Jesus said,“ Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number.Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted.And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples,“ Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.”So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said,“ This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

Then Jesus said to him,“ Be gone, Satan! For it is written,“‘ You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”

Jesus said to him,“ Again it is written,‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

But Elisha said,“ Hear the word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.”Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned said to the man of God,“ If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” But he said,“ You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you.Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts.

And his disciples answered him,“ How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?”And he asked them,“ How many loaves do you have?” They said,“ Seven.”And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd.And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them.And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full.And there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away.

And Jesus answered him,“ It is said,‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

But Jesus said,“ They need not go away; you give them something to eat.”They said to him,“ We have only five loaves here and two fish.”And he said,“ Bring them here to me.”Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over.And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said,“ Give to the men, that they may eat.”But his servant said,“ How can I set this before a hundred men?” So he repeated,“ Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the Lord,‘ They shall eat and have some left.’”So he set it before them. And they ate and had some left, according to the word of the Lord.

You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. As I commanded you, you shall eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. None shall appear before me empty-handed.

how did you fare? When one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were but twenty.I struck you and all the products of your toil with blight and with mildew and with hail, yet you did not turn to me, declares the Lord.Consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. Since the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid, consider:Is the seed yet in the barn? Indeed, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have yielded nothing. But from this day on I will bless you.”

And he said to them,“ How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said,“ Five, and two fish.”Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass.So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties.And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all.And they all ate and were satisfied.And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish.And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

And she said,“ As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die.”And Elijah said to her,“ Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son.For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel,‘ The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’”And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days.The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.
