誘者乃進而謂之曰：『爾苟為天主子、盍命斯石變餅。』

The tempter came to him and said,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

During that time the devil came and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”

Then the tempter approached him and said,“ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

And the tempter came and said to Him,“ If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

Now when the tempter came to Him, he said,“ If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

Then the tempter approached Him and said,“ If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said,“ Oh that we had meat to eat!We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.”

For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor would be in vain.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman,“ Did God actually say,‘ You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”And the woman said to the serpent,“ We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden,but God said,‘ You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”But the serpent said to the woman,“ You will not surely die.For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Then Satan answered the Lord and said,“ Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life.But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.”And the Lord said to Satan,“ Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life.”So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.

“ Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat,but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”

Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world— he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying,“ Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

Yet they sinned still more against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.They tested God in their heart by demanding the food they craved.They spoke against God, saying,“ Can God spread a table in the wilderness?He struck the rock so that water gushed out and streams overflowed. Can he also give bread or provide meat for his people?”

Then Satan answered the Lord and said,“ Does Job fear God for no reason?Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.”And the Lord said to Satan,“ Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

and the people of Israel said to them,“ Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted.And Esau said to Jacob,“ Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!”( Therefore his name was called Edom.)Jacob said,“ Sell me your birthright now.”Esau said,“ I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?”Jacob said,“ Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob.Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

And those in the boat worshiped him, saying,“ Truly you are the Son of God.”

that no one is sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal.

And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,

And immediately he proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying,“ He is the Son of God.”

and behold, a voice from heaven said,“ This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

The devil said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
