耶稣稍往前走，看见西庇太的儿子雅各，和雅各的弟弟约翰，正在船上整理鱼网，他立即呼召他们。他们撇下父亲西庇太和雇工在船上，就跟从他去了。

西庇太的儿子雅各，和雅各的弟弟约翰（耶稣给他们二人起名叫半尼其，就是“雷子”的意思），

西门的伙伴，西庇太的儿子雅各、约翰也是这样。耶稣对西门说：“不要怕！从今以后，你要作得人的渔夫了。”他们把两只船拢了岸，撇下一切，跟从了耶稣。

当时西门．彼得、称为“双生子”的多马、加利利的迦拿人拿但业、西庇太的两个儿子，和另外两个门徒都聚在一起。

他带了彼得和西庇太的两个儿子一起去，心里忧愁难过，

过了六天，耶稣带着彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟约翰，领他们悄悄地上了高山。

于是他不许别人跟他一起去，只带了彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟约翰。

那时，西庇太的儿子的母亲，带着她的两个儿子前来见耶稣。她跪在耶稣面前求他。耶稣问她：“你想要什么？”她说：“求你下令，使我这两个儿子在你的国里，一个坐在你的右边，一个坐在你的左边。”

用刀杀了约翰的哥哥雅各。
