All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: (niv)

This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:“ Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets.A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory.In his name the nations will put their hope.” (niv)

These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled:“ Not one of his bones will be broken,”and, as another scripture says,“ They will look on the one they have pierced.” (niv)

But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law:‘ They hated me without reason.’ (niv)

It is written:‘ And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment. (niv)

Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said,“ I am thirsty.” (niv)

where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet:“ Out of Egypt I called my son.” (niv)
