And do not presume to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

勿自謂、我有亞伯拉罕為父也、我語汝、上帝能由此石興起亞伯拉罕之子孫焉、

勿自以為亞伯拉罕吾祖也、吾語爾、上帝能使此石為亞伯拉罕子孫焉、

毋心中自矜曰、亞伯拉罕吾祖也、吾語爾、天主能使此石為亞伯拉罕之子孫焉、

毋思吾輩有亞伯漢為我祖先；蓋吾語爾、天主全能、即欲化此頑石為亞伯漢之子孫、亦易如反掌耳。

And do not think you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

Don’t think you can say to yourselves,‘ Abraham is our father.’ I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones.

Don’t just say to each other,‘ We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.

And don’t presume to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.

and do not assume that you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father’; for I tell you that God is able, from these stones, to raise up children for Abraham.

and do not think to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

And don’t presume to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to[ our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

and don’t think you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.

and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but“ Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.

They answered him,“ We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say,‘ You will become free’?”

“ Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation.

What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh?

For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,

And he called out,‘ Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman.But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar.Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.For it is written,“ Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband.”Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise.But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.But what does the Scripture say?“ Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.”So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.

Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?”

They answered him,“ Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them,“ If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works Abraham did,but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.

“ Son of man, the inhabitants of these waste places in the land of Israel keep saying,‘ Abraham was only one man, yet he got possession of the land; but we are many; the land is surely given us to possess.’

When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them,“ Why do you question in your hearts?

and he thought to himself,‘ What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’

Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name.

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”

He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,and to make him the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void.For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring— not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,as it is written,“ I have made you the father of many nations”— in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.

He answered,“ I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
