but continually proclaimed to those in Damascus first, and in Jerusalem, and then all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they are to repent and turn to God, performing deeds consistent with repentance.

Therefore produce fruits that are consistent with repentance, and do not start saying to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children for Abraham.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,gentleness, self control; against such things there is no law.

Through these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world on account of lust.Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,and in your knowledge, self control, and in your self control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they do not make you useless nor unproductive in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now then, reform your ways and your deeds and obey the voice of the Lord your God; and the Lord will relent of the disaster which He has pronounced against you.

Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and restraint and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,who will repay each person according to his deeds:to those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life;

This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you live in this place.Do not trust in deceptive words, saying,‘ This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly practice justice between a person and his neighbor,if you do not oppress the stranger, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, nor follow other gods to your own ruin,then I will let you live in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.

And the crowds were questioning him, saying,“ Then what are we to do?”And he would answer and say to them,“ The one who has two tunics is to share with the one who has none; and the one who has food is to do likewise.”Now even tax collectors came to be baptized, and they said to him,“ Teacher, what are we to do?”And he said to them,“ Collect no more than what you have been ordered to.”And soldiers also were questioning him, saying,“ What are we to do, we as well?” And he said to them,“ Do not extort money from anyone, nor harass anyone, and be content with your wages.”

For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.For behold what earnestness this very thing, this godly sorrow, has produced in you: what vindication of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment of wrong! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be innocent in the matter.

For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even have second thoughts afterward so as to believe him.
