But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them:“ You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?

and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,

“ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

Flee from the midst of Babylon, And every one save his life! Do not be cut off in her iniquity, For this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; He shall recompense her.

How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?— but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

To whom shall I speak and give warning, That they may hear? Indeed their ear is uncircumcised, And they cannot give heed. Behold, the word of the Lord is a reproach to them; They have no delight in it.

Then Jesus said to them,“ Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”

When I say to the wicked,‘ You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.“ Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand.Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul.”

For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders.When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him,“ Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”

For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Then the Lord said to him,“ Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness.Foolish ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also?But rather give alms of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you.“ But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like graves which are not seen, and the men who walk over them are not aware of them.”

Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk.

But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying,“ It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”

Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him,“ Are we blind also?”

when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people,then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head.He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life.But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’“ So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me.

But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.

Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them,“ Why have you not brought Him?”The officers answered,“ No man ever spoke like this Man!”Then the Pharisees answered them,“ Are you also deceived?Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”

Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees.

The wicked are estranged from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.Their poison is like the poison of a serpent; They are like the deaf cobra that stops its ear,Which will not heed the voice of charmers, Charming ever so skillfully.Break their teeth in their mouth, O God! Break out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord!

Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him( which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with indignation,

Then some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him; and they asked Him, saying:

In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

Then they sent to Him some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, to catch Him in His words.

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

“ But come here, You sons of the sorceress, You offspring of the adulterer and the harlot!Whom do you ridicule? Against whom do you make a wide mouth And stick out the tongue? Are you not children of transgression, Offspring of falsehood,

These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.

They knew me from the first, if they were willing to testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself,‘ God, I thank You that I am not like other men— extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

They hatch vipers’ eggs and weave the spider’s web; He who eats of their eggs dies, And from that which is crushed a viper breaks out.

and said to the mountains and rocks,“ Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him.

So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven,“ Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him,“ Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council,“ Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”And when he had said this, a dissension arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees; and the assembly was divided.For Sadducees say that there is no resurrection— and no angel or spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.Then there arose a loud outcry. And the scribes of the Pharisees’ party arose and protested, saying,“ We find no evil in this man; but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.”

Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

Then His disciples came and said to Him,“ Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”

Now when the Pharisees heard it they said,“ This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”

Then He charged them, saying,“ Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
