This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:“ A voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”

John is the one Isaiah the prophet had spoken about. He had said,“ A messenger is calling out in the desert,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord. Make straight paths for him.’ ”( Isaiah 40:3)

The prophet Isaiah was speaking about John when he said,“ He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him!’”

For he is the one spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, who said: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight!

For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said,“ The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!’ ”

聽啊，有人高喊：「在曠野預備耶和華的道，在沙漠修直我們上帝的路。

他說：「我就是在曠野大聲呼喊『修直主的路』的那個人，正如以賽亞先知所言。」

萬軍之耶和華說：「我要差遣我的使者為我開路。你們所尋求的主必突然來到祂的殿中。你們所期盼的那位立約的使者快要來了！」

至於你，我的兒子啊！你將要被稱為至高者的先知，因為你要走在主的前面，為祂預備道路，

耶和華說：「要修路，修路，鋪平道路，清除我子民路上的障礙。」那至高至上、永遠長存的聖者說：「我住在至高至聖之處，但我也跟痛悔、謙卑的人同住，使他們心靈振作。

他就到約旦河附近宣講悔改的洗禮，使人的罪得到赦免。這正應驗了以賽亞先知書上的話：「在曠野有人大聲呼喊，『預備主的道，修直祂的路。一切山谷將被填滿，大山小丘將被削平，彎曲的道路要被修直，崎嶇的路徑要被鋪平。世人都要看見上帝的救恩。』」

他將以先知以利亞的心志和能力作主的先鋒，使父親的心轉向兒女，使叛逆的人回轉、順從義人的智慧，為主預備合用的子民。」
