The Lord scoffs at them.Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury.For the Lord declares,“ I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”

This was done late on Friday afternoon, the day of preparation, as the Sabbath was about to begin.As his body was taken away, the women from Galilee followed and saw the tomb where his body was placed.Then they went home and prepared spices and ointments to anoint his body. But by the time they were finished the Sabbath had begun, so they rested as required by the law.

On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked,“ Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you?”

“ In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed.But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.

It was the day of preparation, and the Jewish leaders didn’t want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath( and a very special Sabbath, because it was Passover week). So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be taken down.

Very early in the morning the leading priests and the elders of the people met again to lay plans for putting Jesus to death.Then they bound him, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor.
