律法教師和法利賽人密切地監視耶穌，看祂會不會在安息日醫治病人，好找個藉口控告祂。耶穌知道他們的心思，就對那個右手萎縮的人說：「起來，站在大家面前！」那人就起來站在那裡。耶穌問眾人：「我問你們，在安息日應該行善呢，還是作惡呢？救人呢，還是害人呢？」

「因為我耶和華喜愛公正，憎惡搶劫之罪。我必憑信實賞賜我的子民，與他們立永遠的約。

瞎眼的嚮導啊！你們濾出蚊蟲，卻吞下駱駝。

不可把男女廟妓的收入帶到你們上帝耶和華的殿還願，因為你們的上帝耶和華憎惡他們。

黎明的時候，眾人從該亞法那裡把耶穌押往總督府，他們自己卻沒有進去，因為怕沾染污穢，不能吃逾越節的晚餐。
