Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying,“ Certainly this man was innocent!”And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts.And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.

He at once took soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.

But the centurion, wishing to save Paul, kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and make for the land,

When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him,

Then he called two of the centurions and said,“ Get ready two hundred soldiers, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go as far as Caesarea at the third hour of the night.

And when it was decided that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan Cohort named Julius.

And the tempter came and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”

Paul called one of the centurions and said,“ Take this young man to the tribune, for he has something to tell him.”

and saying,“ You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him,“ I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.”

Again the king sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up and came and fell on his knees before Elijah and entreated him,“ O man of God, please let my life, and the life of these fifty servants of yours, be precious in your sight.Behold, fire came down from heaven and consumed the two former captains of fifty men with their fifties, but now let my life be precious in your sight.”

At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort,

So they all said,“ Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them,“ You say that I am.”

Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,“ Brothers, what shall we do?”

And at that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas.Then he brought them out and said,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

The Jews answered him,“ We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has made himself the Son of God.”

and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,
