復從而唾之、奪其葦、而擊其首。

They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.

Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Then they knelt down and paid homage to him.

I offered my back to those who attacked, my jaws to those who tore out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spitting.

Sons of senseless and nameless people, they were driven out of the land with whips.“ And now I have become their taunt song; I have become a byword among them.They detest me and maintain their distance; they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
