They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.

I gave My back to those who strike Me, And My cheeks to those who pull out My beard; I did not hide My face from insults and spitting.

Worthless fellows, even those without a name, They were cast out from the land.“ And now I have become their taunt, And I have become a byword to them.They loathe me and stand aloof from me, And they do not refrain from spitting in my face.

This is what the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and its Holy One, Says to the despised One, To the One abhorred by the nation, To the Servant of rulers:“ Kings will see and arise, Princes will also bow down, Because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You.”

Just as many were appalled at you, My people, So His appearance was marred beyond that of a man, And His form beyond the sons of mankind.
