When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd.“ I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said.“ It is your responsibility!”

Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere. Instead, the crowd was starting to get angry. So he took water and washed his hands in front of them.“ I am not guilty of this man’s death,” he said.“ You are accountable for that!”

So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying,“ I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”

永恆主啊，我要洗手表明無辜，才來繞行你的祭壇，

說：『我把無辜人送官處死，我有罪了。』他們說：『那與我們何干？你自理吧！』

離那被刺死的人最近的、那城的眾長老要在谿谷間在脖子被打折的母牛犢以上洗手。他們要應聲申明說：「這血我們的手未曾使它流過，我們的眼也未曾看見過。永恆主啊，求你赦宥你人民以色列、就是你所贖救的；不要使流無辜血的罪歸在你人民以色列中間；總要使他們流人血的罪得除淨。」

但是他們說：『當節期中不可，恐怕民間生亂。』

他叫那不認識罪的替我們成了罪，好叫我們在他裏面成為上帝之義。

因為基督也曾儘一次為我們的罪而受死，義的替不義的，為要領我們進到上帝面前。在肉身裏、他是被處死了，但在靈裏、他卻得存活了。

你們棄絕了那聖潔而正義的，反而求把一個做兇手的人給予你們。

百夫長和同他看守耶穌的人見地震和所經過的事，就起了極大敬畏的心，說：『真是上帝的兒子啊這個人！』

彼拉多就再出來到外邊，對他們說：『看哪，我帶他到外邊來給你們，叫你們知道我查不出他有甚麼罪狀。』

這就應驗了那由神言人耶利米所說的話，說：『他們取了那三十錠銀子，被估價的人的價銀，就是以色列人中所估價的，

然而你還說：「我無辜；主的怒氣必定向我轉消。」看吧，我一定要判罰你，因為你自己說：「我沒有犯罪。」

我若用雪水洗身，用鹼潔淨手掌，你還會將我蘸在坑裏，以致連我的衣裳都厭惡我。

他們對樹榦說：「你是我的父」，對石頭說：「你是生我的」。他們是以背向着我，不是以面；到遭遇患難時，他們卻說：「起來，拯救我們哦！」

彼拉多正坐在臺上審判的時候，他的夫人差遣人來見他說：『這無罪的人的事你一點也不可管；因為為了他、我今天在夢中受了許多苦。』
