“ Why?” Pilate demanded.“ What crime has he committed?” But the mob roared even louder,“ Crucify him!”

Then he said,“ Why? What has he done wrong?” But they kept shouting all the more,“ Crucify him!”

But he said,“ Why, what evil has He done?” Yet they kept shouting all the more, saying,“ Crucify Him!”

Then the governor said,“ Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, saying,“ Let Him be crucified!”

And he said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, saying, Let him be crucified.

Then he said,“ Why? What has He done wrong?” But they kept shouting,“ Crucify Him!” all the more.

He asked,“ Why? What wrong has he done?” But they shouted more insistently,“ Crucify him!”

But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked men of the rabble, they formed a mob, set the city in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the crowd.And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting,“ These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also,and Jason has received them, and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”

For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established. Therefore send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.”Then Jonathan answered Saul his father,“ Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”But Saul hurled his spear at him to strike him. So Jonathan knew that his father was determined to put David to death.

And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak to my father about you. And if I learn anything I will tell you.”And Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him,“ Let not the king sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have brought good to you.For he took his life in his hand and he struck down the Philistine, and the Lord worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood by killing David without cause?”And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore,“ As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.”And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.And there was war again. And David went out and fought with the Philistines and struck them with a great blow, so that they fled before him.Then a harmful spirit from the Lord came upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing the lyre.And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he eluded Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, told him,“ If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”So Michal let David down through the window, and he fled away and escaped.Michal took an image and laid it on the bed and put a pillow of goats’ hair at its head and covered it with the clothes.And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said,“ He is sick.”Then Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying,“ Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.”

They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him.They said to one another,“ Here comes this dreamer.

Then Ahimelech answered the king,“ And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, and captain over your bodyguard, and honored in your house?Is today the first time that I have inquired of God for him? No! Let not the king impute anything to his servant or to all the house of my father, for your servant has known nothing of all this, much or little.”And the king said,“ You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.”And the king said to the guard who stood about him,“ Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king would not put out their hand to strike the priests of the Lord.Then the king said to Doeg,“ You turn and strike the priests.” And Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod.And Nob, the city of the priests, he put to the sword; both man and woman, child and infant, ox, donkey and sheep, he put to the sword.

And when the dissension became violent, the tribune, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him away from among them by force and bring him into the barracks.

When it was day, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.There were more than forty who made this conspiracy.They went to the chief priests and elders and said,“ We have strictly bound ourselves by an oath to taste no food till we have killed Paul.Now therefore you, along with the council, give notice to the tribune to bring him down to you, as though you were going to determine his case more exactly. And we are ready to kill him before he comes near.”

But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.

crying out,“ Men of Israel, help! This is the man who is teaching everyone everywhere against the people and the law and this place. Moreover, he even brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.”For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple.Then all the city was stirred up, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut.And as they were seeking to kill him, word came to the tribune of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion.

Up to this word they listened to him. Then they raised their voices and said,“ Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he should not be allowed to live.”And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air,

But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.
