But the Jews, being moved with jealousy, took unto them certain vile fellows of the rabble, and gathering a crowd, set the city on an uproar; and assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them forth to the people.And when they found them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethren before the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;whom Jason hath received: and these all act contrary to the decrees of Cæsar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore should he be put to death? what hath he done?And Saul cast his spear at him to smite him; whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to put David to death.

And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as beforetime.And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled before him.And an evil spirit from Jehovah was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand; and David was playing with his hand.And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the spear; but he slipped away out of Saul’s presence, and he smote the spear into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.And Saul sent messengers unto David’s house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to- night, to- morrow thou wilt be slain.So Michal let David down through the window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.And Michal took the teraphim, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats’ hair at the head thereof, and covered it with the clothes.And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

And they saw him afar off, and before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who among all thy servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son- in- law, and is taken into thy council, and is honorable in thy house?Have I to- day begun to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute anything unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for thy servant knoweth nothing of all this, less or more.And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father’s house.And the king said unto the guard that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of Jehovah; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and he slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen and asses and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them, and bring him into the castle.

And when it was day, the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.And they were more than forty that made this conspiracy.And they came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.Now therefore do ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you, as though ye would judge of his case more exactly: and we, before he comes near, are ready to slay him.

But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance.And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him.

crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man that teacheth all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place; and moreover he brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place.For they had before seen with him in the city Trophimus the Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.And all the city was moved, and the people ran together; and they laid hold on Paul, and dragged him out of the temple: and straightway the doors were shut.And as they were seeking to kill him, tidings came up to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in confusion.

And they gave him audience unto this word; and they lifted up their voice, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.And as they cried out, and threw off their garments, and cast dust into the air,

But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord;
