As the crowds gathered before Pilate’s house that morning, he asked them,“ Which one do you want me to release to you— Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”

So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them,“ Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”

So after they had assembled, Pilate said to them,“ Whom do you want me to release for you, Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Christ?”

But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

“ Away with him,” they yelled.“ Away with him! Crucify him!”“ What? Crucify your king?” Pilate asked.“ We have no king but Caesar,” the leading priests shouted back.

Then Elijah stood in front of them and said,“ How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” But the people were completely silent.

“ Would you like me to release to you this‘ King of the Jews’?” Pilate asked.( For he realized by now that the leading priests had arrested Jesus out of envy.)But at this point the leading priests stirred up the crowd to demand the release of Barabbas instead of Jesus.Pilate asked them,“ Then what should I do with this man you call the king of the Jews?”

So the governor asked again,“ Which of these two do you want me to release to you?” The crowd shouted back,“ Barabbas!”Pilate responded,“ Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” They shouted back,“ Crucify him!”

Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Mary gave birth to Jesus, who is called the Messiah.
