So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them,“ Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”

他们就大声喊叫：“除掉他！除掉他！把他钉上十字架！”彼拉多问：“我可以把你们的王钉上十字架吗？”祭司长们回答：“除了凯撒，我们没有王！”

彼拉多问他们，说：“你们要我给你们释放这犹太人的王吗？”其实彼拉多知道祭司长们是出于嫉妒才把耶稣交给他的。但是，祭司长们煽动众人，宁愿要彼拉多给他们释放巴拉巴。彼拉多又问他们，说：“那么，你们要我怎么处理你们称为犹太人之王的那一位呢？”

总督问他们，说：“这两个人中，你们要我给你们释放哪一个呢？”他们回答说：“巴拉巴！”彼拉多对他们说：“那么，我该怎么处理这称为基督的耶稣呢？”他们都说：“把他钉上十字架！”

雅各生约瑟，就是玛丽亚的丈夫，那称为基督的耶稣是由玛丽亚所生的。
