Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd.

What has he done wrong?” But they shouted more insistently,“ Crucify him!”Because he wanted to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them. Then, after he had Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

Pilate asked,“ What is truth?” When he had said this he went back outside to the Jewish leaders and announced,“ I find no basis for an accusation against him.But it is your custom that I release one prisoner for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?”Then they shouted back,“ Not this man, but Barabbas!”( Now Barabbas was a revolutionary.)

After two years had passed, Porcius Festus succeeded Felix, and because he wanted to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.

But Festus, wanting to do the Jews a favor, asked Paul,“ Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and be tried before me there on these charges?”
