耶穌卻不作聲。大祭司又對他說：“我指著永生的神要你起誓，告訴我們你是不是基督、神的兒子。”

他被虐待，受痛苦的時候，他並不開口；他像羊羔被牽去屠宰，又像羊在剪羊毛的人面前寂然無聲，他也是這樣不開口。

至於我，像個聾子，不能聽見；像個啞巴，不能開口。我竟變成了一個像是不能聽見的人，變成了一個口中不能反駁的人。

他被罵的時候不還嘴，受苦的時候也不說恐嚇的話；只把自己交託給那公義的審判者。

又進了官邸，問耶穌：“你究竟是從哪裡來的？”耶穌卻不回答他。彼拉多對他說：“你不對我說話嗎？你不知道我有權釋放你，也有權把你釘十字架嗎？”耶穌說：“如果不是從天上給你權柄，你就無權辦我；因此，把我交給你的那人，罪更重了。”
