耶穌還是沉默不語。大祭司又對祂說：「我奉永活上帝的名命令你起誓告訴我們，你是不是上帝的兒子基督？」

祂遭欺壓、受痛苦，卻默然不語，像被人牽去宰殺的羔羊，又如在剪毛人手下一聲不吭的綿羊。

但我像聽不見的聾子，無法說話的啞巴。我就像一個不能聽、不能辯的人。

他剛才念的那段經文是：「祂默然不語，像被人牽去宰殺的羔羊，又如在剪毛人手下一聲不吭的綿羊。

耶穌仍然一言不發，彼拉多感到十分驚奇。

祭司長控告了耶穌許多罪。彼拉多又問道：「你看，他們控告你這麼多，你都不回答嗎？」耶穌仍舊一言不發，彼拉多感到驚奇。

祂被辱駡也不還口，被迫害也不揚言報復，只把自己交託給按公義施行審判的上帝。

連忙將耶穌帶回總督府，問祂：「你到底是從哪裡來的？」但耶穌沒有回答。彼拉多說：「你不回答我嗎？難道你不知道我有權釋放你，也有權把你釘在十字架上嗎？」耶穌回答說：「除非從上面賜下權柄給你，否則你無權處置我。因此，把我交給你的那個人罪更大。」
