Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind:“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he went away, weeping bitterly.

Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken:“ Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said.“ The rooster will crow,” Jesus had told him.“ Before it does, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Peter went outside. He broke down and cried.

And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t.I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.

“ Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”Peter said,“ Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you, and even to die with you.”But Jesus said,“ Peter, let me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.”

Jesus answered,“ Die for me? I tell you the truth, Peter— before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.

Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.

At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord’s words flashed through Peter’s mind:“ Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.”And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.

For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?

And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.

When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and the elders.“ I have sinned,” he declared,“ for I have betrayed an innocent man.”“ What do we care?” they retorted.“ That’s your problem.”Then Judas threw the silver coins down in the Temple and went out and hanged himself.
