saying,“ Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?”

and said,“ Prophesy to us, Messiah! Who was it that hit you?”

and said,“ Prophesy to us, You Christ; who is the one who hit You?”

saying,“ Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?”

saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee?

and said,“ Prophesy to us, Messiah! Who hit You?”

Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

saying,“ Prophesy for us, you Christ! Who hit you?”

saying,“ Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who hit you?”

The guards in charge of Jesus began mocking and beating him.They blindfolded him and said,“ Prophesy to us! Who hit you that time?”And they hurled all sorts of terrible insults at him.

Then some of them began to spit at him, and they blindfolded him and beat him with their fists.“ Prophesy to us,” they jeered. And the guards slapped him as they took him away.

Then they saluted him and taunted,“ Hail! King of the Jews!”And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their knees in mock worship.

Half drunk by now, the people demanded,“ Bring out Samson so he can amuse us!” So he was brought from the prison to amuse them, and they had him stand between the pillars supporting the roof.

It was now about noon on the day of preparation for the Passover. And Pilate said to the people,“ Look, here is your king!”“ Away with him,” they yelled.“ Away with him! Crucify him!”“ What? Crucify your king?” Pilate asked.“ We have no king but Caesar,” the leading priests shouted back.

“ Here comes the dreamer!” they said.“ Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns. We can tell our father,‘ A wild animal has eaten him.’ Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!”

The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.“ Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”Even the revolutionaries who were crucified with him ridiculed him in the same way.

You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.As the Scriptures say,“ I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him,“ The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.”And,“ He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.

The soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him.“ Hail! King of the Jews!” they mocked, as they slapped him across the face.

They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him.They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted,“ Hail! King of the Jews!”
