他們既捉拿耶穌，就給帶走，帶進大祭司的住宅；彼得遠遠地跟着。他們在院子當中生了火、一同坐着；彼得也坐在他們當中。

其中有一個人、那年做大祭司的該亞法、對他們說：『你們甚麼都不懂；

當下大祭司將耶穌的門徒和他的教訓的事詰問耶穌。耶穌回答他說：『我從來是坦然公開地向世人講話；我常常在會堂在殿裏、眾猶太人聚集的地方、教訓人，並沒有在隱密中講甚麼呀。你為甚麼問我呢？可以問問聽見的人、我對他們講過甚麼話；你看，我所說的、這些人都知道呀。』耶穌說了這些話，旁邊站着的差役有一個給他一個耳刮子，說：『你這樣回答大祭司麼？』耶穌回答他說：『我若講得不對，你可以指證那不對之處；若是對呢、你為甚麼打我？』於是亞那把耶穌（仍是捆着）送到大祭司該亞法那裏。

兵隊和千夫長跟猶太人的差役就捉拿耶穌，把他捆住，先帶到亞那面前；因為亞那是那年做大祭司的該亞法的岳父，該亞法是那位給猶太人出過主意說：『一個人替人民死、是對人民有益的。』

他們把耶穌帶走，到大祭司那裏：眾祭司長長老和經學士都聚攏來。彼得從遠處跟着耶穌、直到裏面，到大祭司的院子裏；就和差役們一同坐着，向着火光烤火。祭司長和全議院尋找見證告耶穌、要治死他，卻尋不着；因為有許多人作假見證告他，見證都不相合。有幾個人站起來，作假見證告他說：『我們曾聽見他說，「我要拆毁這人手造的殿堂，三日之間要建造另一座不是人手造的。」』就是這樣，他們的見證也不相合。大祭司就站起來在中間，詰問耶穌說：『你甚麼都不回答麼？這些人作見證告你甚麼呢？』耶穌不作聲，甚麼也不回答。大祭司又詰問他說：『你、是上帝所膏立者，那當受祝頌者的兒子麼？』耶穌說：『我就是；你們必看見人子坐在「權能」的右邊，駕着天雲來臨。』大祭司就撕開裏衣說：『我們還需要見證人麼？你們聽見僭妄的話了；你們有甚麼意見？』眾人都定他應該死的罪。有幾個人開始向他吐唾沫，蒙着他的臉，用拳頭打他，對他說：『你說豫言吧！』差役用耳刮子把他拉過去。
