那时，祭司长们和民间的长老们聚集在叫该亚法的大祭司的宅院里，

他们终日歪曲我的话，千方百计加害于我；他们聚集、设伏、窥探我的脚踪，伺机要害我的命。

他们抓住耶稣，把他带走，押到大祭司的家里。彼得远远地跟着。他们在院子当中生了火，一起坐着。彼得也坐在他们中间。

其中有一个人叫该亚法，是当年的大祭司，对他们说：“你们什么都不懂！

那时，大祭司盘问耶稣有关他的门徒和他教导的事。耶稣回答他：“我一向公开地对世人讲话。我总是在会堂和圣殿，就是所有犹太人聚集的地方教导人。我没有在隐秘中讲过什么。你为什么问我呢？你可以去问那些听见过的人，我对他们讲了什么。你看，我所说的，那些人都知道。”耶稣说了这些话，站在旁边的一个差役就打了他一巴掌，说：“你这样回答大祭司吗？”耶稣回答他：“如果我说得不对，你可以见证哪里不对；如果说得对，你为什么打我呢？”那时候耶稣仍然被捆绑，亚纳把他押送到大祭司该亚法那里去。

于是那队士兵和千夫长，以及犹太人的差役们，抓住耶稣，把他捆绑起来，先带到亚纳面前，因为亚纳是当年的大祭司该亚法的岳父。该亚法就是曾经向那些犹太人建议“一个人替民众死是有益处的”那个人。

他们把耶稣带到大祭司那里。所有的祭司长、长老和经文士都聚在一起。彼得远远地跟着耶稣，直到进了大祭司的院子里。他与差役们一起坐在火边取暖。当时，祭司长们和全议会的人为了要处死耶稣，都在寻找证据来控告他。可是他们找不出什么。许多人做伪证诬告他，可是这些证词互相矛盾。有一些人站起来做伪证控告他，说：“我们听他说过‘我要拆毁这座人手所造的圣所，三天内另建一座不是人手所造的。’”可是他们这个证词也是互相矛盾的。于是大祭司就起来站到中间问耶稣，说：“对这些人控告你的事，你什么都不回应吗？”耶稣沉默不语，什么也不回答。大祭司又问他，说：“你是基督——那当受颂赞者的儿子吗？”耶稣说：“我就是。而且你们将看见人子坐在全能者的右边，在天上的云彩中来临。”大祭司就撕裂自己的衣服，说：“难道我们还需要什么见证人吗？你们都听见了这亵渎的话。你们怎么看？”他们都判定他是该死的。接着，有些人开始向他吐唾沫，蒙住他的脸，用拳头打他，对他说：“你说预言吧！”差役们也用手掌打他。
