他们把耶稣押到大祭司的府第。彼得远远地跟在后面。他们在庭院当中生起了火，围坐取暖，彼得也坐在他们中间。

当年担任大祭司的该亚法对他们说：“你们什么都不懂！

此时，大祭司正在盘问耶稣有关祂的门徒和祂的教导之事。耶稣说：“我是公开对世人讲的，我常在犹太人聚集的会堂和圣殿教导人，没有在背地里讲过什么。你何必问我呢？问那些听过我讲的人吧，他们知道我讲过什么。”耶稣话才说完，站在旁边的差役就打了祂一耳光，说：“你敢这样回答大祭司！”耶稣说：“如果我说错了，你可以指出我错在哪里。如果我说的对，你为什么打我呢？”亚那把被捆绑起来的耶稣押到大祭司该亚法那里。

千夫长带着士兵和犹太人的差役上前把耶稣捆绑起来，带了回去。他们押着耶稣去见亚那，就是那一年的大祭司该亚法的岳父。这个该亚法以前曾对犹太人建议说：“让祂一个人替众人死对你们更好。”

他们把耶稣押到大祭司那里，众祭司长、长老和律法教师都来了。那时彼得远远地跟着耶稣，一直来到大祭司的院子，与卫兵们坐在一起烤火。祭司长和全公会的人正在寻找证据控告耶稣，要定祂死罪，只是找不到。不少人作伪证控告祂，他们的证词却不一致。后来，有几个人站起来作伪证说：“我们听见祂说，‘我要拆毁这座人手建造的圣殿，三天内不靠人力另造一座。’”即使这样，他们的证词也不一致。最后，大祭司在众人面前站起来质问耶稣：“你不回答吗？这些人作证控告你的是什么呢？”耶稣还是沉默不语，什么也不答。大祭司又问祂：“你是那当受称颂者的儿子基督吗？”耶稣说：“我是！将来你们要看见人子坐在全能上帝的右边，驾着天上的云降临。”大祭司便撕裂衣服，说：“我们还需要什么证人呢？你们听见祂说亵渎的话了，你们看怎么办？”他们都判祂死罪。有几个人向祂吐唾沫，蒙上祂的眼睛，挥拳打祂，嘲笑祂说：“你说预言吧！”卫兵押祂下去时，也打祂。
