耶稣还在说话的时候，来了一群人。十二使徒之一名叫犹大的，走在前头，接近耶稣，要亲他。耶稣对他说：“犹大，你用亲吻来出卖人子吗？”左右的人见了要发生的事，就说：“主啊，我们拿刀砍好不好？”其中有一个人把大祭司的仆人砍了一刀，削掉了他的右耳。耶稣回答说：“算了，住手吧！”就摸那人的耳朵，把他治好了。耶稣对那些来抓他的祭司长、守殿官和长老说：“你们带着刀棒出来，如同对付强盗吗？我天天同你们在圣殿里，你们不下手抓我。现在却是你们的时候，黑暗掌权了。”

耶稣还在说话的时候，忽然十二使徒之一的犹大来了，还有一群人带着刀棒，从祭司长、文士和长老那里跟他同来。那出卖耶稣的人曾给他们一个暗号，说：“我亲谁，谁就是。你们把他抓住，稳妥地带走。”犹大来了，随即到耶稣跟前，说：“拉比”，就跟他亲吻。他们就下手抓住他。旁边站着的人，有一个拔出刀来，把大祭司的仆人砍了一刀，削掉了他一只耳朵。耶稣回应他们说：“你们带着刀棒出来拿我，如同拿强盗吗？我天天教导人，同你们在殿里，你们并没有抓我。但这是要应验经上的话。”门徒都离开他，逃走了。

耶稣说了这些话，就同门徒出去，过了汲沦溪。在那里有一个园子，他和门徒进去了。出卖耶稣的犹大也知道那地方，因为耶稣和门徒屡次在那里聚集。犹大领了一队兵，以及祭司长和法利赛人的圣殿警卫，拿着灯笼、火把和兵器来到园里。耶稣知道将要临到自己的一切事，就出来对他们说：“你们找谁？”他们回答他：“拿撒勒人耶稣。”耶稣对他们说：“我就是。”出卖他的犹大也同他们站在一起。耶稣一对他们说“我就是”，他们就退后，倒在地上。他又问他们：“你们找谁？”他们说：“拿撒勒人耶稣。”耶稣回答：“我已经告诉你们，我就是。你们若找的是我，就让这些人走吧。”这要应验耶稣说过的话：“你所赐给我的人，我一个也不失落。”西门‧彼得带着一把刀，就拔出来，把大祭司的仆人砍了一刀，削掉了他的右耳，那仆人名叫马勒古。于是耶稣对彼得说：“收刀入鞘吧！我父给我的杯，我岂可不喝呢？”
