耶稣还在说话的时候，十二使徒中的犹大已带着一群人赶到，他上前亲吻耶稣。耶稣对他说：“犹大，你用亲吻的暗号来出卖人子吗？”跟随耶稣的人见他们来势汹汹，就说：“主啊，我们该拔刀抵抗吗？”其中一人拔刀朝大祭司的奴仆砍过去，削掉了他的右耳。耶稣却说：“住手！够了！”于是祂摸那奴仆的耳朵，治好了他，然后对前来抓祂的祭司长、圣殿护卫长和长老说：“你们像对付强盗一样拿着刀棍来抓我吗？我天天和你们一起在圣殿里，你们没有抓我。但现在正是黑暗当权、你们得势的时候了！”

耶稣还在说话的时候，十二门徒之一的犹大已带了一群人拿着刀棍迎面而来。他们奉了祭司长、律法教师和长老之命来捉拿耶稣。出卖耶稣的犹大预先和他们定了暗号，说：“我亲吻谁，谁就是耶稣，你们把祂抓起来，小心押走。”犹大随即走到耶稣跟前说：“老师。”然后就亲吻耶稣。其他人就下手捉拿耶稣。站在旁边的一个门徒拔出刀朝大祭司的奴仆砍去，削掉了他一只耳朵。耶稣问那群人：“你们像对付强盗一样拿着刀棍来抓我吗？我天天和你们在一起，在圣殿里教导人，你们没有来抓我。你们现在这样做是要应验圣经的话。”那时，门徒都撇下耶稣，各自逃命去了。

耶稣祷告完毕，就带着门徒渡过汲沦溪，进了那里的一个园子。因为耶稣时常带着门徒到那里聚会，所以出卖耶稣的犹大也知道那地方。这时，犹大带着一队士兵以及祭司长和法利赛人的差役，拿着灯笼、火把和兵器来了。耶稣早就知道将要发生在自己身上的一切事，于是出来问他们：“你们找谁？”他们回答说：“拿撒勒人耶稣！”耶稣说：“我就是。”那时出卖耶稣的犹大也站在他们当中。他们听到耶稣说“我就是”，便后退跌倒在地上。耶稣又问：“你们找谁？”他们说：“拿撒勒人耶稣。”耶稣说：“我已经告诉你们我就是。你们既然找我，就让这些人走吧。”这是要应验祂以前说的：“你赐给我的人一个也没有失掉。”这时，西门·彼得带着一把刀，他拔刀向大祭司的奴仆马勒古砍去，削掉了他的右耳。耶稣对彼得说：“收刀入鞘吧！我父赐给我的杯，我怎能不喝呢？”
