Then Annas sent him, still tied up, to Caiaphas the high priest.

And Peter had followed him from a distance, up to the high priest’s courtyard. He was sitting with the guards and warming himself by the fire.

They brought him first to Annas, for he was the father- in- law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.( Now it was Caiaphas who had advised the Jewish leaders that it was to their advantage that one man die for the people.)Simon Peter and another disciple followed them as they brought Jesus to Annas.( Now the other disciple was acquainted with the high priest, and he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard.)

Why do the nations rebel? Why are the countries devising plots that will fail?The kings of the earth form a united front; the rulers collaborate against the LORD and his anointed king.

( Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who knew where Jesus was should report it, so that they could arrest him.)

Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor’s residence.( Now it was very early morning.) They did not go into the governor’s residence so they would not be ceremonially defiled, but could eat the Passover meal.

Now the ones who had arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the high priest, in whose house the experts in the law and the elders had gathered.But Peter was following him from a distance, all the way to the high priest’s courtyard. After going in, he sat with the guards to see the outcome.

On the next day, their rulers, elders, and experts in the law came together in Jerusalem.Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest’s family.

They stalk and lurk; they watch my every step, as they prepare to take my life.

in order to shoot down the innocent in secluded places. They shoot at him suddenly and are unafraid of retaliation.They encourage one another to carry out their evil deed. They plan how to hide snares, and boast,“ Who will see them?”They devise unjust schemes; they disguise a well-conceived plot. Man’s inner thoughts cannot be discovered.

When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds regarded him as a prophet.

Before this I had been like a docile lamb ready to be led to the slaughter. I did not know they were making plans to kill me. I did not know they were saying,“ Let’s destroy the tree along with its fruit! Let’s remove Jeremiah from the world of the living so people will not even be reminded of him any more.”

Cruel rulers are not your allies, those who make oppressive laws.They conspire against the blameless, and condemn to death the innocent.

Then some people said,“ Come on! Let us consider how to deal with Jeremiah! There will still be priests to instruct us, wise men to give us advice, and prophets to declare God’s word. Come on! Let’s bring charges against him and get rid of him! Then we will not need to pay attention to anything he says.”Then I said,“ LORD, pay attention to me. Listen to what my enemies are saying.Should good be paid back with evil? Yet they are virtually digging a pit to kill me. Just remember how I stood before you pleading on their behalf to keep you from venting your anger on them.

But you must obey me and set the Sabbath day apart to me. You must not carry any loads in through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. If you disobey, I will set the gates of Jerusalem on fire. It will burn down all the fortified dwellings in Jerusalem and no one will be able to put it out.’”

during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A slave girl came to him and said,“ You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”
