So, having obtained help from God, I stand to this day testifying both to small and great, stating nothing but what the Prophets and Moses said was going to take place,as to whether the Christ was to suffer, and whether, as first from the resurrection of the dead, He would proclaim light both to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.”

“ Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to the person through whom the stumbling block comes!

For I handed down to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?”

Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, And like a root out of dry ground; He has no stately form or majesty That we would look at Him, Nor an appearance that we would take pleasure in Him.He was despised and abandoned by men, A man of great pain and familiar with sickness; And like one from whom people hide their faces, He was despised, and we had no regard for Him.However, it was our sicknesses that He Himself bore, And our pains that He carried; Yet we ourselves assumed that He had been afflicted, Struck down by God, and humiliated.But He was pierced for our offenses, He was crushed for our wrongdoings; The punishment for our well being was laid upon Him, And by His wounds we are healed.All of us, like sheep, have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the wrongdoing of us all To fall on Him.He was oppressed and afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off from the land of the living For the wrongdoing of my people, to whom the blow was due?And His grave was assigned with wicked men, Yet He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.But the Lord desired To crush Him, causing Him grief; If He renders Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, For He will bear their wrongdoings.Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the plunder with the strong, Because He poured out His life unto death, And was counted with wrongdoers; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the wrongdoers.

Then after the sixty two weeks, the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.

While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name, which You have given Me; and I guarded them, and not one of them perished except the son of destruction, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.

For indeed, the Son of Man is going as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”

And He said to them,“ Elijah does come first and he restores all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

But all this has taken place so that the Scriptures of the prophets will be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left Him and fled.

And according to Paul’s custom, he visited them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,explaining and giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead, and saying,“ This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ.”

And then He said to them,“ You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?”Then beginning with Moses and with all the Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures.

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled,* said,“ I am thirsty.”

Save me, God, For the waters have threatened my life.I have sunk in deep mud, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; Those who would destroy me are powerful, those who oppose me with lies; What I did not steal, I then have to restore.God, You know my foolishness, And my guilt is not hidden from You.May those who wait for You not be ashamed because of me, Lord God of armies; May those who seek You not be dishonored because of me, God of Israel,Because for Your sake I have endured disgrace; Dishonor has covered my face.I have become estranged from my brothers, And a stranger to my mother’s sons.For zeal for Your house has consumed me, And the taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on me.When I wept in my soul with fasting, It became my disgrace.When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a proverb to them.Those who sit in the gate talk about me, And songs of mockery by those habitually drunk are about me.But as for me, my prayer is to You, Lord, at an acceptable time; God, in the greatness of Your mercy, Answer me with Your saving truth.Rescue me from the mud and do not let me sink; May I be rescued from those who hate me, and from the depths of water.May the flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the pit close its mouth on me.Answer me, Lord, for Your mercy is good; According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me,And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in distress; answer me quickly.Come near to my soul and redeem it; Ransom me because of my enemies!You know my disgrace, my shame, and my dishonor; All my enemies are known to You.Disgrace has broken my heart, and I am so sick. And I waited for sympathy, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.They also gave me a bitter herb in my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my help are the words of my groaning.My God, I cry out by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest.Yet You are holy, You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You rescued them.To You they cried out and they fled to safety; In You they trusted and were not disappointed.But I am a worm and not a person, A disgrace of mankind and despised by the people.All who see me deride me; They sneer, they shake their heads, saying,“ Turn him over to the Lord; let Him save him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.I was cast upon You from birth; You have been my God from my mother’s womb.Do not be far from me, for trouble is near; For there is no one to help.Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.They open their mouths wide at me, As a ravening and roaring lion.I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me.My strength is dried up like a piece of pottery, And my tongue clings to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death.For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;They divide my garments among them, And they cast lots for my clothing.But You, Lord, do not be far away; You who are my help, hurry to my assistance.Save my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog.Save me from the lion’s mouth; From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me.I will proclaim Your name to my brothers; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.You who fear the Lord, praise Him; All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel.For He has not despised nor scorned the suffering of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard.From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him.The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the Lord. May your heart live forever!All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, And all the families of the nations will worship before You.For the kingdom is the Lord’s And He rules over the nations.All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, All those who go down to the dust will kneel before Him, Even he who cannot keep his soul alive.A posterity will serve Him; It will be told of the Lord to the coming generation.They will come and will declare His righteousness To a people who will be born, that He has performed it.

But You, God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction; Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days. But I will trust in You.

“ Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.”( Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.And it became known to all the residents of Jerusalem; as a result that field was called Hakeldama in their own language, that is, Field of Blood.)“ For it is written in the book of Psalms:‘ May his residence be made desolate, And may there be none living in it’; and,‘ May another take his office.’

For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing neither Him nor the declarations of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him.And though they found no grounds for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.When they had carried out everything that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb.

Appoint a wicked person over him, And may an accuser stand at his right hand.When he is judged, may he come out guilty, And may his prayer become sin.May his days be few; May another take his office.May his children be fatherless, And his wife a widow.May his children wander about and beg; And may they seek sustenance far from their ruined homes.May the creditor seize everything that he has, And may strangers plunder the product of his labor.May there be none to extend kindness to him, Nor any to be gracious to his fatherless children.May his descendants be eliminated; May their name be wiped out in a following generation.May the guilt of his fathers be remembered before the Lord, And do not let the sin of his mother be wiped out.May they be before the Lord continually, So that He may eliminate their memory from the earth;Because he did not remember to show mercy, But persecuted the afflicted and needy person, And the despondent in heart, to put them to death.He also loved cursing, so it came to him; And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him.But he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, And it entered his body like water, And like oil into his bones.May it be to him as a garment with which he covers himself, And as a belt which he constantly wears around himself.

When they had set a day for Paul, people came to him at his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening.

this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.

to do whatever Your hand and purpose predestined to occur.

“ Awake, sword, against My Shepherd, And against the Man, My Associate,” Declares the Lord of armies.“ Strike the Shepherd and the sheep will be scattered; And I will turn My hand against the little ones.

“ And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of pleading, so that they will look at Me whom they pierced; and they will mourn for Him, like one mourning for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.

Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,saying,“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said,“ What is that to us? You shall see to it yourself!”And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and left; and he went away and hanged himself.

So they said to one another,“ Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be.” This happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled:“ They divided My garments among themselves, and they cast lots for My clothing.” Therefore the soldiers did these things.

May death come deceitfully upon them; May they go down alive to Sheol, For evil is in their dwelling, in their midst.

The Lord God has opened My ear, And I was not disobedient, Nor did I turn back.I gave My back to those who strike Me, And My cheeks to those who pull out My beard; I did not hide My face from insults and spitting.

For these things took place so that the Scripture would be fulfilled:“ Not a bone of Him shall be broken.”And again another Scripture says,“ They will look at Him whom they pierced.”

And I will make enemies Of you and the woman, And of your offspring and her Descendant; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise Him on the heel.”
