Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand unto this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses did say should come;how that the Christ must suffer, and how that he first by the resurrection of the dead should proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles.

Woe unto the world because of occasions of stumbling! for it must needs be that the occasions come; but woe to that man through whom the occasion cometh!

For I delivered unto you first of all that which also I received: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

How then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

Who hath believed our message? and to whom hath the arm of Jehovah been revealed?For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?And they made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities.Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined.

While I was with them, I kept them in thy name which thou hast given me: and I guarded them, and not one of them perished, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

And he said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought?

But all this is come to pass, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

and Paul, as his custom was, went in unto them, and for three sabbath days reasoned with them from the scriptures,opening and alleging that it behooved the Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom, said he, I proclaim unto you, is the Christ.

And he said unto them, O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!Behooved it not the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

After this Jesus, knowing that all things are now finished, that the scripture might be accomplished, saith, I thirst.

Save me, O God; For the waters are come in unto my soul.I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.I am weary with my crying; my throat is dried: Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: They that would cut me off, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: That which I took not away I have to restore.O God, thou knowest my foolishness; And my sins are not hid from thee.Let not them that wait for thee be put to shame through me, O Lord Jehovah of hosts: Let not those that seek thee be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; Shame hath covered my face.I am become a stranger unto my brethren, And an alien unto my mother’s children.For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up; And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, That was to my reproach.When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword unto them.They that sit in the gate talk of me; And I am the song of the drunkards.But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time: O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness, Answer me in the truth of thy salvation.Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.Let not the waterflood overwhelm me, Neither let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me.And hide not thy face from thy servant; For I am in distress; answer me speedily.Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: Ransom me because of mine enemies.Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: Mine adversaries are all before thee.Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.They gave me also gall for my food; And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Concerning which salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:searching what time or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did point unto, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow them.

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou answerest not; And in the night season, and am not silent.But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.Our fathers trusted in thee: They trusted, and thou didst deliver them.They cried unto thee, and were delivered: They trusted in thee, and were not put to shame.But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised of the people.All they that see me laugh me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,Commit thyself unto Jehovah; let him deliver him: Let him rescue him, seeing he delighteth in him.But thou art he that took me out of the womb; Thou didst make me trust when I was upon my mother’s breasts.I was cast upon thee from the womb; Thou art my God since my mother bare me.Be not far from me; for trouble is near; For there is none to help.Many bulls have compassed me; Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.They gape upon me with their mouth, As a ravening and a roaring lion.I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint: My heart is like wax; It is melted within me.My strength is dried up like a potsherd; And my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; And thou hast brought me into the dust of death.For dogs have compassed me: A company of evil- doers have inclosed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.I may count all my bones. They look and stare upon me;They part my garments among them, And upon my vesture do they cast lots.But be not thou far off, O Jehovah: O thou my succor, haste thee to help me.Deliver my soul from the sword, My darling from the power of the dog.Save me from the lion’s mouth; Yea, from the horns of the wild- oxen thou hast answered me.I will declare thy name unto my brethren: In the midst of the assembly will I praise thee.Ye that fear Jehovah, praise him; All ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; And stand in awe of him, all ye the seed of Israel.For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Neither hath he hid his face from him; But when he cried unto him, he heard.Of thee cometh my praise in the great assembly: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.The meek shall eat and be satisfied; They shall praise Jehovah that seek after him: Let your heart live for ever.All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto Jehovah; And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.For the kingdom is Jehovah’s; And he is the ruler over the nations.All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship: All they that go down to the dust shall bow before him, Even he that cannot keep his soul alive.A seed shall serve him; It shall be told of the Lord unto the next generation.They shall come and shall declare his righteousness Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it.

But thou, O God, wilt bring them down into the pit of destruction: Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; But I will trust in thee.

Brethren, it was needful that the scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.For he was numbered among us, and received his portion in this ministry.( Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.)For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take.

For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.And though they found no cause of death in him, yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.

Set thou a wicked man over him; And let an adversary stand at his right hand.When he is judged, let him come forth guilty; And let his prayer be turned into sin.Let his days be few; And let another take his office.Let his children be fatherless, And his wife a widow.Let his children be vagabonds, and beg; And let them seek their bread out of their desolate places.Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; And let strangers make spoil of his labor.Let there be none to extend kindness unto him; Neither let there be any to have pity on his fatherless children.Let his posterity be cut off; In the generation following let their name be blotted out.Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with Jehovah; And let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.Let them be before Jehovah continually, That he may cut off the memory of them from the earth;Because he remembered not to show kindness, But persecuted the poor and needy man, And the broken in heart, to slay them.Yea, he loved cursing, and it came unto him; And he delighted not in blessing, and it was far from him.He clothed himself also with cursing as with his garment, And it came into his inward parts like water, And like oil into his bones.Let it be unto him as the raiment wherewith he covereth himself, And for the girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

And when they had appointed him a day, they came to him into his lodging in great number; to whom he expounded the matter, testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning till evening.

him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:

to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass.

Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look unto me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first- born.

Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,saying, I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou to it.And he cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary, and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.

They said therefore one to another, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my garments among them, And upon my vesture did they cast lots.

Let death come suddenly upon them, Let them go down alive into Sheol; For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

The Lord Jehovah hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away backward.I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

For these things came to pass, that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
