They became greatly distressed and each one began to say to him,“ Surely not I, Lord?”

They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other,“ Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”

The disciples became very sad. One after the other, they began to say to him,“ Surely you don’t mean me, Lord, do you?”

And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another,“ Is it I, Lord?”

Greatly distressed, each one asked in turn,“ Am I the one, Lord?”

Being deeply grieved, they began saying to Him, each one:“ Surely it is not I, Lord?”

And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him,“ Lord, is it I?”

And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began to say unto him every one, Is it I, Lord?

Deeply distressed, each one began to say to Him,“ Surely not I, Lord?”

And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

They were exceedingly sorrowful, and each began to ask him,“ It isn’t me, is it, Lord?”

They were distressed, and one by one said to him,“ Surely not I?”He said to them,“ It is one of the twelve, one who dips his hand with me into the bowl.

So they began to question one another as to which of them it could possibly be who would do this.

The disciples began to look at one another, worried and perplexed to know which of them he was talking about.One of his disciples, the one Jesus loved, was at the table to the right of Jesus in a place of honor.So Simon Peter gestured to this disciple to ask Jesus who it was he was referring to.Then the disciple whom Jesus loved leaned back against Jesus’ chest and asked him,“ Lord, who is it?”

Jesus said a third time,“ Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that Jesus asked him a third time,“ Do you love me?” and said,“ Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus replied,“ Feed my sheep.
