Being deeply grieved, they began saying to Him, each one:“ Surely it is not I, Lord?”

眾憂甚、遞相問曰、主、我乎、

門徒憂甚、一一問曰、主、是我乎、

門徒不勝戚戚、一一問之曰：『主、予乎？』

They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other,“ Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”

The disciples became very sad. One after the other, they began to say to him,“ Surely you don’t mean me, Lord, do you?”

And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another,“ Is it I, Lord?”

Greatly distressed, each one asked in turn,“ Am I the one, Lord?”

Deeply distressed, each one began to say to him,“ Surely not I, Lord?”

And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him,“ Lord, is it I?”

And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began to say unto him every one, Is it I, Lord?

And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

They became greatly distressed and each one began to say to him,“ Surely not I, Lord?”

They were exceedingly sorrowful, and each began to ask him,“ It isn’t me, is it, Lord?”

They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one,“ Surely not I?”But He said to them,“ It is one of the twelve, the one who dips bread with Me in the bowl.

And they began to debate among themselves which one of them it was who was going to do this.

The disciples began looking at one another, at a loss to know of which one He was speaking.Lying back on Jesus’ chest was one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.So Simon Peter* nodded to this disciple and* said to him,“ Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking.”He then simply leaned back on Jesus’ chest and* said to Him,“ Lord, who is it?”

He* said to him the third time,“ Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was hurt because He said to him the third time,“ Do you love Me?” And he said to Him,“ Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus* said to him,“ Tend My sheep.
