Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

“ Then they too will answer,‘ Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help You?’

Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

“ Then they will also answer, saying,‘ Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn’t help you?’

“ But I did obey the Lord,” Saul insisted.“ I carried out the mission he gave me. I brought back King Agag, but I destroyed everyone else.Then my troops brought in the best of the sheep, goats, cattle, and plunder to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.”

You have wearied the Lord with your words.“ How have we wearied him?” you ask. You have wearied him by saying that all who do evil are good in the Lord’s sight, and he is pleased with them. You have wearied him by asking,“ Where is the God of justice?”

“ You have said terrible things about me,” says the Lord.“ But you say,‘ What do you mean? What have we said against you?’

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to the priests:“ A son honors his father, and a servant respects his master. If I am your father and master, where are the honor and respect I deserve? You have shown contempt for my name!“ But you ask,‘ How have we ever shown contempt for your name?’

When Samuel finally found him, Saul greeted him cheerfully.“ May the Lord bless you,” he said.“ I have carried out the Lord’s command!”“ Then what is all the bleating of sheep and goats and the lowing of cattle I hear?” Samuel demanded.“ It’s true that the army spared the best of the sheep, goats, and cattle,” Saul admitted.“ But they are going to sacrifice them to the Lord your God. We have destroyed everything else.”

The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

“ You say,‘ That’s not true! I haven’t worshiped the images of Baal!’ But how can you say that? Go and look in any valley in the land! Face the awful sins you have done. You are like a restless female camel desperately searching for a mate.

“ Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said,‘ Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate.I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’“ But the master replied,‘ You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate,why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’

And yet you say,‘ I have done nothing wrong. Surely God isn’t angry with me!’ But now I will punish you severely because you claim you have not sinned.

On judgment day many will say to me,‘ Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’
