One basket had very good-looking figs in it. They looked like those that had ripened early. The other basket had very bad-looking figs in it, so bad they could not be eaten.

For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea,and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,and all ate the same spiritual food,and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they were all drinking from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were cut down in the wilderness.

“ Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man who built his house on rock.The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, but it did not collapse because it had been founded on rock.Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, and it collapsed; it was utterly destroyed!”

When anyone hears the word about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches what was sown in his heart; this is the seed sown along the path.The seed sown on rocky ground is the person who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy.But he has no root in himself and does not endure; when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.The seed sown among thorns is the person who hears the word, but worldly cares and the seductiveness of wealth choke the word, so it produces nothing.But as for the seed sown on good soil, this is the person who hears the word and understands. He bears fruit, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.”

The field is the world and the good seed are the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.As the weeds are collected and burned with fire, so it will be at the end of the age.The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom everything that causes sin as well as all lawbreakers.They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. The one who has ears had better listen!

Now I desire to remind you( even though you have been fully informed of these facts once for all) that Jesus, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, later destroyed those who did not believe.

“ Who then is the faithful and wise slave, whom the master has put in charge of his household, to give the other slaves their food at the proper time?

“ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea that caught all kinds of fish.When it was full, they pulled it ashore, sat down, and put the good fish into containers and threw the bad away.

And those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all they found, both bad and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.But when the king came in to see the wedding guests, he saw a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.
