“ For it is just like a man about to go on a journey. He called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them.

“ Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.

“ Again, here is what the kingdom of heaven will be like. A man was going on a journey. He sent for his slaves and put them in charge of his money.

“ For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property.

“ Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone.

“ For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.

“ For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.

For it is as when a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

“ For it is just like a man going on a journey. He called his own slaves and turned over his possessions to them.

For[ the kingdom of heaven is] as a man travelling into a far country,[ who] called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

“ For it is like a man going on a journey, who summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them.

“ For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them.

Be hospitable to one another without complaining.Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God.If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, let it be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

“ It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his servants, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert.

Therefore he said,“ A nobleman traveled to a far country to receive for himself authority to be king and then to return.He called ten of his servants, gave them ten minas, and told them,‘ Engage in business until I come back.’“ But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying,‘ We don’t want this man to rule over us.’“ At his return, having received the authority to be king, he summoned those servants he had given the money to, so that he could find out how much they had made in business.The first came forward and said,‘ Master, your mina has earned ten more minas.’“‘ Well done, good servant!’ he told him.‘ Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, have authority over ten towns.’“ The second came and said,‘ Master, your mina has made five minas.’“ So he said to him,‘ You will be over five towns.’“ And another came and said,‘ Master, here is your mina. I have kept it safe in a clothbecause I was afraid of you since you’re a harsh man: you collect what you didn’t deposit and reap what you didn’t sow.’“ He told him,‘ I will condemn you by what you have said, you evil servant! If you knew I was a harsh man, collecting what I didn’t deposit and reaping what I didn’t sow,why, then, didn’t you put my money in the bank? And when I returned, I would have collected it with interest.’So he said to those standing there,‘ Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’“ But they said to him,‘ Master, he has ten minas.’“‘ I tell you, that to everyone who has, more will be given; and from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away.But bring here these enemies of mine, who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter them in my presence.’”

And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers,

Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit.

A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good:to one is given a message of wisdom through the Spirit, to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit,to another, faith by the same Spirit, to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit,to another, the performing of miracles, to another, prophecy, to another, distinguishing between spirits, to another, different kinds of tongues, to another, interpretation of tongues.One and the same Spirit is active in all these, distributing to each person as he wills.For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body— so also is Christ.For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body— whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free— and we were all given one Spirit to drink.Indeed, the body is not one part but many.If the foot should say,“ Because I’m not a hand, I don’t belong to the body,” it is not for that reason any less a part of the body.And if the ear should say,“ Because I’m not an eye, I don’t belong to the body,” it is not for that reason any less a part of the body.If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?But as it is, God has arranged each one of the parts in the body just as he wanted.And if they were all the same part, where would the body be?As it is, there are many parts, but one body.The eye cannot say to the hand,“ I don’t need you!” Or again, the head can’t say to the feet,“ I don’t need you!”On the contrary, those parts of the body that are weaker are indispensable.And those parts of the body that we consider less honorable, we clothe these with greater honor, and our unrespectable parts are treated with greater respect,which our respectable parts do not need. Instead, God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the less honorable,so that there would be no division in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other.So if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.Now you are the body of Christ, and individual members of it.And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, next miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, leading, various kinds of tongues.Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all do miracles?

Now he said to the disciples,“ There was a rich man who received an accusation that his manager was squandering his possessions.So he called the manager in and asked,‘ What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you can no longer be my manager.’“ Then the manager said to himself,‘ What will I do since my master is taking the management away from me? I’m not strong enough to dig; I’m ashamed to beg.I know what I’ll do so that when I’m removed from management, people will welcome me into their homes.’“ So he summoned each one of his master’s debtors.‘ How much do you owe my master?’ he asked the first one.“‘ A hundred measures of olive oil,’ he said.“‘ Take your invoice,’ he told him,‘ sit down quickly, and write fifty.’“ Next he asked another,‘ How much do you owe?’“‘ A hundred measures of wheat,’ he said.“‘ Take your invoice,’ he told him,‘ and write eighty.’“ The master praised the unrighteous manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the children of this age are more shrewd than the children of light in dealing with their own people.And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of worldly wealth so that when it fails, they may welcome you into eternal dwellings.Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.So if you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with what is genuine?And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what is your own?

A person should think of us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of the mysteries of God.In this regard, it is required that managers be found faithful.

“ For it is just like a man about to go on a journey. He called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them.To one he gave five talents, to another two talents, and to another one talent, depending on each one’s ability. Then he went on a journey. Immediatelythe man who had received five talents went, put them to work, and earned five more.In the same way the man with two earned two more.But the man who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.“ After a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.The man who had received five talents approached, presented five more talents, and said,‘ Master, you gave me five talents. See, I’ve earned five more talents.’“ His master said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy.’“ The man with two talents also approached. He said,‘ Master, you gave me two talents. See, I’ve earned two more talents.’“ His master said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy.’“ The man who had received one talent also approached and said,‘ Master, I know you. You’re a harsh man, reaping where you haven’t sown and gathering where you haven’t scattered seed.So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’“ His master replied to him,‘ You evil, lazy servant! If you knew that I reap where I haven’t sown and gather where I haven’t scattered,then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and I would have received my money back with interest when I returned.“‘ So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents.For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.And throw this good-for-nothing servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

“ Listen to another parable: There was a landowner, who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower. He leased it to tenant farmers and went away.

According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the proportion of one’s faith;if service, use it in service; if teaching, in teaching;if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness.

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given.

Now he began to tell the people this parable:“ A man planted a vineyard, leased it to tenant farmers, and went away for a long time.
