and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.

Suppose he begins to beat the other slaves. And suppose he eats and drinks with those who drink too much.

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.

Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill the fatlings; but ye feed not the sheep.

neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves ensamples to the flock.

And the custom of the priests with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was boiling, with a flesh- hook of three teeth in his hand;and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the flesh- hook brought up the priest took therewith. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.Yea, before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have boiled flesh of thee, but raw.And if the man said unto him, They will surely burn the fat first, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would say, Nay, but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to- morrow shall be as this day, a day great beyond measure.

For ye bear with a man, if he bringeth you into bondage, if he devoureth you, if he taketh you captive, if he exalteth himself, if he smiteth you on the face.

Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’ (niv)

It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. (niv)

for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets, and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.” (niv)

Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. (niv)

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed— an accursed brood! (niv)

For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. (niv)

Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at his word:“ Your own people who hate you, and exclude you because of my name, have said,‘ Let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy!’ Yet they will be put to shame. (niv)

These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm— shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted— twice dead. (niv)

They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach— and that for the sake of dishonest gain.One of Crete’s own prophets has said it:“ Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.” (niv)
