“ Therefore stay alert, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.

Watch therefore, for you don’t know in what hour your Lord comes.

Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”

So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.

“ So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.

“ However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.

“ Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.”

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.

This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

“ Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning,as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks.The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat!He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready.“ Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into.You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.”

He told them,“ My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying,“ My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter,“ Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour?Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”

The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.

You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.

And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!“ The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return— in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”
