我们要行事端正，好像在白昼中那样：不可荒宴、醉酒；不可淫乱、好色；不可纷争、嫉妒。相反，要穿上主耶稣基督；不要为了私欲而在属肉体的事上做任何安排。

“可是他们都开始一致地推辞。第一个说：‘我买了一块地，必须去看看，请你容我推辞吧。’“另一个说：‘我买了五对牛，正要去试试它们，请你容我推辞吧。’“另有人说：‘我刚娶了妻子，所以不能去。’

“你们要谨慎自守，免得你们的心因宴乐、醉酒和今生的忧虑变得迟钝，那日子就会像网罗一样突然临到你们，

神的儿子们看到人的女儿们美丽，就从中任意挑选，为自己娶来为妻。

娅比盖回到纳巴尔那里，看哪，他在家里摆设宴席，像王的宴席一样。纳巴尔心情好，醉得很厉害，所以娅比盖无论大事小事都没有告诉他，直到早晨天亮。到了早晨，纳巴尔酒醒后，他的妻子把这些事告诉他，他就失去了意识，身体变得硬如石头。大约过了十天，耶和华击打纳巴尔，他就死了。

但如果这奴仆心里说‘我的主人会迟延回来’，就动手殴打其他的男仆和女仆，并且吃喝、醉酒，

复活的时候，人既不娶也不嫁，而是像天上的天使一样。

然后，我要对我的灵魂说：灵魂哪，你拥有了很多好东西，足以享用多年，你就休息、吃喝、庆祝吧。’

到那日，主万军之耶和华呼吁你们哭泣哀号、剃光头发、束上麻布。看哪！你们却欢喜快乐，杀牛宰羊，吃肉喝酒，说：“让我们吃喝吧！因为明天我们就要死了。”万军之耶和华亲自启示我：“这罪孽，你们到死也绝不会赎清！”这是主万军之耶和华说的。

挪亚与他的儿子们、他的妻子和儿媳们一起进入方舟，躲避大洪水。

弟兄们，我要说这一点：时候不多了！从此有妻子的，要像没有妻子的；哭泣的，要像没有哭泣的；快乐的，要像没有快乐的；买了东西的，要像没有什么的；利用世界的，要像没有充分利用世界的；因为这世界的形态正在消逝。

于是他带大卫下去。看哪，他们分散在那整片地上，吃喝庆祝，因他们从非利士人之地和犹大地掳掠了大量的各样战利品。大卫击杀他们，从黄昏直到第二天傍晚；他们当中除了四百个骑骆驼的年轻人逃跑了以外，再没有一个人逃脱。
