“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

Jehovah recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of Jehovah, the God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to take refuge.

As an eagle that stirreth up her nest, That fluttereth over her young, He spread abroad his wings, he took them, He bare them on his pinions.Jehovah alone did lead him, And there was no foreign god with him.

He will cover thee with his pinions, And under his wings shalt thou take refuge: His truth is a shield and a buckler.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Because I have called, and ye have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man hath regarded;But ye have set at nought all my counsel, And would none of my reproof:I also will laugh in the day of your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;When your fear cometh as a storm, And your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; When distress and anguish come upon you.Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:For that they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of Jehovah,They would none of my counsel, They despised all my reproof.Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own devices.

For thou hast been my help, And in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

Thus saith Jehovah, Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk therein.And I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet; but they said, We will not hearken.

How precious is thy lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge under the shadow of thy wings.

Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their back, and slew thy prophets that testified against them to turn them again unto thee, and they wrought great provocations.

And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that cometh up out of the abyss shall make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them.And their dead bodies lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove out us, and please not God, and are contrary to all men;

Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.

and he sent forth his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and I must needs go out and see it; I pray thee have me excused.And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee have me excused.And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come.

I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we should not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

and said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him:If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith Jehovah: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.And I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land; so that ye obey not the voice of Jehovah your God,

But his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not that this man reign over us.And it came to pass, when he was come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, unto whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading.And the first came before him, saying, Lord, thy pound hath made ten pounds more.And he said unto him, Well done, thou good servant: because thou wast found faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.And the second came, saying, Thy pound, Lord, hath made five pounds.And he said unto him also, Be thou also over five cities.And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I kept laid up in a napkin:for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that which thou layedst not down, and reapest that which thou didst not sow.He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that which I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow;then wherefore gavest thou not my money into the bank, and I at my coming should have required it with interest?And he said unto them that stood by, Take away from him the pound, and give it unto him that hath the ten pounds.And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.I say unto you, that unto every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him.But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.And when he had thus spoken, he went on before, going up to Jerusalem.And it came to pass, when he drew nigh unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples,saying, Go your way into the village over against you; in which as ye enter ye shall find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat: loose him, and bring him.And if any one ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say, The Lord hath need of him.And they that were sent went away, and found even as he had said unto them.And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?And they said, The Lord hath need of him.And they brought him to Jesus: and they threw their garments upon the colt, and set Jesus thereon.And as he went, they spread their garments in the way.And as he was now drawing nigh, even at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen;saying, Blessed is the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.And some of the Pharisees from the multitude said unto him, Teacher, rebuke thy disciples.And he answered and said, I tell you that, if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it,saying, If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,and shall dash thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of Jehovah.Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, Jehovah look upon it, and require it.

And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner.

and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.

Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto me!There shall no strange god be in thee; Neither shalt thou worship any foreign god.I am Jehovah thy God, Who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.But my people hearkened not to my voice; And Israel would none of me.

O Jerusalem, wash thy heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thine evil thoughts lodge within thee?

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me; For my soul taketh refuge in thee: Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I take refuge, Until these calamities be overpast.

Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye.Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One; of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers;

And my people are bent on backsliding from me: though they call them to him that is on high, none at all will exalt him.

In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king, who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

And Jehovah, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling- place:but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from thee; lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited.

But he was angry, and would not go in: and his father came out, and entreated him.

Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets cried, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Return ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith Jehovah.

And he sent yet another servant: and him also they beat, and handled him shamefully, and sent him away empty.And he sent yet a third: and him also they wounded, and cast him forth.And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will reverence him.But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.And again he sent unto them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and handled shamefully.And he sent another; and him they killed: and many others; beating some, and killing some.He had yet one, a beloved son: he sent him last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stink, because there is no water, and die for thirst.

The more the prophets called them, the more they went from them: they sacrificed unto the Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.

From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of Jehovah hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising up early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened.And Jehovah hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them,( but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear),saying, Return ye now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that Jehovah hath given unto you and to your fathers, from of old and even for evermore;and go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the work of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith Jehovah; that ye may provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own hurt.

And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I wondered with a great wonder.
