『經學士和法利賽人、假冒為善的人哪，你們有禍啊！因為你們潔淨杯盤的外面；裏面呢、卻滿了勒索和放縱。

「經文士和法利賽人哪，你們這些偽善的人有禍了！因為你們洗淨杯子、盤子的外面，裡面卻盛滿了貪心和放縱。

禍哉、爾偽善之士子與法利賽人乎、以爾潔杯盤之外、而內充以劫奪邪侈也、

偽善之士子、𠵽唎㘔人、其有禍乎、以爾潔杯盤之外、而劫奪非義充其內、

禍哉爾偽善之經士與法利賽人、因爾潔杯盤之外、內則充滿劫奪及非義、

哀哉爾經生與法利塞人、虛偽之徒也！蓋爾第潔杯盤之表、而內充貪污邪欲。

“ What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy— full of greed and self indulgence!

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and excess.

主對他說：「你們法利賽人洗淨杯盤的外面，你們裡面卻充滿了貪婪和邪惡。愚蠢的人啊，人裡外不都是上帝所創造的嗎？

因為從心裡出來的有惡念、謀殺、通姦、淫亂、偷盜、假見證和毀謗，這些東西才使人污穢。不洗手吃飯並不會使人污穢。」

從市場回來也要先潔淨自己，然後才吃飯。他們還拘守許多其他規矩，如洗杯、罐、銅器等。他們質問耶穌：「為什麼你的門徒違背祖先的傳統，竟用不潔淨的手吃飯呢？」耶穌回答說：「以賽亞先知針對你們這些偽君子所說的預言一點不錯，正如聖經上說，『這些人嘴上尊崇我，心卻遠離我。他們的教導無非是人的規條，他們敬拜我也是枉然。』你們只知拘守人的傳統，卻無視上帝的誡命。」耶穌又對他們說：「你們為了拘守自己的傳統，竟巧妙地廢除了上帝的誡命。摩西說，『要孝敬父母』，又說，『咒罵父母的，必被處死。』你們卻認為人若對父母說，『我把供養你們的錢財已經全部奉獻給上帝了』，他就可以不奉養父母。你們就是這樣為了拘守傳統而廢除上帝的道，類似的情形還有很多。」

但祭司和先知也因喝酒而搖搖晃晃，因烈酒而東倒西歪。他們因烈酒而搖搖晃晃、酩酊大醉、東倒西歪，他們錯解異象，糊塗判案。桌子上到處都是嘔吐之物，一片狼藉。
